eCampus Unit

The aim of the eCampus unit’s research, based on an interdisciplinary perspective that combines the methodologies of the philosophical disciplines and psychological sciences, is twofold: 1) To construct a theoretical paradigm capable of integrating the phenomenological theory of narrative identity, the psychological theory of autobiographical memory and the contribution of narrative medicine; 2) To highlight the constitutive role of images in the mechanisms of personal identity construction and narration.
In the process of constructing the theoretical model, the unit will contextualize the data collected from the Memofilm project in the perspective of narrative medicine. We will explore how visual ways of collecting narratives on personal identity, alternative to the classical written collection, can find a place in the broader context of patient care. Narrative medicine is a methodology of clinical
care intervention that considers memories and narratives as a fundamental tool for capturing and understanding the plurality of perspectives involved in the illness-event as well as the patient’s personal identity. An adequate recording of the illness history, which also considers the patients’ personal identity, presumably allows the definition and implementation of a more effective, appropriate and shared care pathway.
